About the Authors

Joyce P. Yang, Zachary Reese, Lily Ma, and Aline Hitti. Dr. Yang, Dr. Reese, and Dr. Ma are Intro Psych instructors and have collectively taught over 20 semesters of the course. Dr. Hitti has experience creating OER as an awardee of USF’s Open Education Resource Grant at Gleeson Library (2021-2022), which involved the development of OER to support courses in statistics, research design and methods, and psychological assessment. Team members’ self-identifications include: woman, man, Asian American, Arab American, multi-racial (Black/White), international (spending substantive years in Indonesia, Taiwan, China, Lebanon, and the United Arab Emirates), cis-het, and queer, reflecting a diverse range of perspectives and experiences. Team members have a range of psychology expertise, including clinical health (JPY), social (ZR), experimental (LM), and developmental (AH) psychology. Team members’ research and service areas focus on DEIA-related scholarship and initiatives. Dr. Yang’s research examines mental health disparities affecting communities of color and gender/sexual minorities, including topics related to race-based stress and trauma as well as experiences of discrimination in the healthcare system. She has also led an anti-bias, anti-racist (ABAR) pedagogical study examining under-represented minority students’ experiences of labor-based grading contracts in psychology. Dr. Reese coordinated faculty workshops to develop and implement anti-racist course strategies and teaches African American psychology, which is designed as a tour of general psychology with a focus on experiences that are unique to Black people living in the United States. Dr. Ma’s research has focused on African American and international student populations. Dr. Hitti has served on work groups focused on equity and justice in child development and conducts research examining the development of fairness and justice in children and adolescents within intergroup peer relationships.
